Students have been killed, beaten and arrested in Iran for expressing their views. Demonstrations erupted because thousands of people wanted to challenge the result of the presidential election. Instead of addressing the concerns expressed by the demonstrators, the government responded violently and curbed freedom of expression further by blocking video sharing sites like You Tube, social network sites like Facebook and some online news sites.
This isn’t the first time students have been singled out by the security forces; over the past ten years some students have been punished for standing up for reform and human rights by being expelled from university, having their dormitories raided and by being arrested. Others have been tortured and been given long prison sentences.
Please post a message that APYN will send to the Iranian authorities calling for protection of students.
