Please support our APYN e-butterfly action for justice for sexual slavery survivors from the Pacific War!
Around 200,000 young women and girls were forced into sexual servitude by the Japanese Imperial Army during the Pacific War. They survived years of rape and harsh treatment. Sixty-five years on, they are still campaigning for justice.
We are a team of APYN activists who set-up this campaign in late 2009 and we’ve organized more than 70 events big and small to raise awareness and demand justice for these survivors. At these events more than 4000 butterfly action cards have been signed in 14 countries including Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Nepal, Pakistan, Australia, Canada, USA and the Netherlands. Just under 4000 butterflies have reached the APYN team in Tokyo so far with around 500 more delayed in the post. On 13 May we attended an NGO meeting where political officials were present and we gave a short presentation about this campaign. Before the end of May we hope to secure a meeting with a Japanese government official and we will then hand over all the 4000+ butterflies and ask him/her to ensure they are delivered to the Prime Minister of Japan.
