Have you always wanted to be in a video clip? Do you have one hour between 8-12th September,2010?
Asia Pacific Youth Network is looking for volunteers who speak Khmer, Bahasa Indonesia, Lao, Tamil, Filipino, Putonghua, Thai, and Vietnamese who have one hour between 8-12th September to be part of a video to the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR)
WHAT’S THIS ABOUT?
APYN has an opportunity to present a short film clip (3-5mins total) to the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR). We want to raise with them three issues and need your voice (and filming skills) to tell them that we care about human rights!
We are making a short video clip to present to the AICHR meeting in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in just 2 weeks time (from 20th September). We have a script, and someone lined up to edit the film, friends in Malaysia to deliver the video, and we just need YOU!
We are looking for people who speak ASEAN languages to ensure our message is clear – we’ve got some volunteers already but need people who speak Khmer, Bahasa Indonesia, Lao, Tamil, Filipino, Putonghua, Thai, Vietnamese who have 1 hour between 8-12th September to be part of a video.
This is a last minute opportunity and we don’t have much time – hoping that we can all take advantage of this to try to make change happen!
WHAT WILL I NEED TO DO?
1.    REGISTER to receive via email the script segment.
2.    Translate the segment of the script from English to your own language.
3.    Film a piece to camera and/or a voice recording of this segment in your own language.

WHAT WILL THE CLIP BE CALLING FOR?
The key points that we will raise are:
  • In drafting the ASEAN Declaration on Human Rights to ensure the terms of reference include:
  • Consultation with the community and expert advice;
  • Transparency in communications and regular updates;
  • Ensure that all international and regional human rights protection are included.
  • With the elections in Myanmar (Burma) this year, we ask that ASEAN nations call on the Myanmar authorities to ensure that freedom of expression; association and peaceful assembly are respected.
  • That Young People in the Asia Pacific region – from ASEAN nations and beyond call that all human rights for all people be respected.
WHY ARE WE DOING THIS?
The AICHR is meeting in Kuala Lumpur, in Malaysia between the 20th and 23rd of September, 2010. AICHR is the body which is responsible for developing the ASEAN Declaration of Human Rights.  We hope to show the video clip to many people attending either or both of these meetings to highlight that young people in this region care about Human Rights. Our friends in Malaysia will deliver YOUR video to AICHR.
You can find out more about the AICHR here.

Some Questions & Answers:
Does APYN provide equipment?
No. There are no resources available for this – this is a last minute opportunity!  To be part of this, you will need access to some form of recording device – a mobile phone with video or voice recording functions, a web cam, a digital camera with video functions or any other device that can provide a recording in the wmv; avi; mov or mpeg formats. Thank you for your support!

Do I have to show my face?

No – you don’t need to show your face however its great if are comfortable to film a piece to camera.  Your name will not be used in connection with the clip, though your country may be. You may decide to do a voice recording.
  • I’m worried about exposing my identity… Please do not volunteer for this if you have concerns. There are many ways to get involved with APYN – check them out here: www.apyouth.net
Will I get to see the clip?
Yes, once the clip is edited you will be able to see it. We’ll send out a link which you can share with your friends too. Our friends in Malaysia will also ask people they show the clip to film a video response – so look out for it!
How will it all make sense?
While segments of the clip will be filmed in 10 ASEAN languages, a subtitle version will be in English – and depending on the availability of people, it may also be translated into Malay.
If you want to help out translating subtitles into other languages, please contact apyncampaign@gmail.com
