Though Burma released more than 6,000 prisoners on 12 October 2011, there are around 1,800 political prisoners still behind bars inBurmawho are being held in awful conditions, some are being tortured and subject to unfair trials too. Let’s urge Burma to release the rest of its political prisoners.

An ongoing legal challenge over plans for a bauxite mine in the Niyamgiri Hills might threaten the rights of the Dongria Kondh (Indigenous Peoples inIndia) who live there. The proposed project would violate their rights as an indigenous community to water, food, health, work and their cultural values and identity – not to mention that the Indian authorities didn’t ask for their consent or give them any information about it!
